Crop Guide – Cabbage

PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS READ THE LABEL BEFORE USING ANY CHEMICAL

Fertilizer Program

This is a broad outline for the fertilization of cabbages. Recommendations will vary depending on specific soil samples.

PRE-PLANT

Get acid sat % to 1%. Apply lime and gypsum if necessary.

Cabbages do not grow well on acid soils

If CLUB ROOT is suspected, lime heavily > 3 tonnes/ha

Broadcast KCL, MAP or 6.28.23 to correct K or P deficiencies

PLANT

Use NPK 6.28.23 at 750-1000kg/ha depending on soil analysis

KynoPop is sprayed over seedling plugs before transplanting in min of 10% solution

  • Cabbage need all their N applied by week 6 at the latest.
  • A later top dress at week 8 can be considered to apply extra K.
  • Cabbage requires a high amount of S (+/- 30-45 kg/ha).
  • Cabbage is very responsive to fresh fert even if soil fertility is good; they like lots of freshly applied fert.
  • Get BIG heads and helps improve the pick out %.
  • Cabbages love S and will always respond to an application of fresh fert, regardless of soil nutrient status.
  • An application of SOP at week 8 is also acceptable practice.
