The Trial
Several small-scale tobacco trials were carried out in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons comparing two suckericide options — Flumetralin Duo EC against straight N-Decanol. The application target was the same in both treatments: the sucker bud at the leaf axil. Growing conditions were matched across the comparison.
Sucker Response
Close-ups of the sucker bud the day after each treatment show two very different responses.

N-Decanol
The N-Decanol application has burnt the sucker, leaving open tissue that increases the risk of barn rot during curing.

Flumetralin Duo EC
RecommendedThe Flumetralin Duo EC application has cleanly distorted the sucker — effective control without the tissue damage that leads to rot.
Whole-Plant Comparison
Plants from each treatment placed side-by-side after the trial. The N-Decanol plant (right) shows continued sucker growth that consumes leaf-quality energy; the Flumetralin Duo EC plant (left) holds cleaner, more compact growth.

Key Finding
Flumetralin Duo EC delivers effective sucker control without the tissue burn that N-Decanol leaves behind — reducing barn-rot risk during curing while keeping leaf-quality energy in the primary leaf.
